In the Haut Vénéon the following refuges will open from the 1st April

There is some doubt about the Lavey <http://www.refuge-lalavey.com> There was a mudslide close to the refuge and there is still a potential danger to the site. The area was overflown by the PGHM of the Isere to check the state of the site

the access road to Ailefroide is closed at the level of the Tunnel des Claux but should open shortly.

I’m interested in the Haute-Maurienne area, because they’re said to have something approaching their long-term average snow-depth for this time of year—and I’ve done spring tours there before, so:

Refuge d’Averole (near Bessans) : 19 March to 8 May

Refuge des Evettes (near Bonneval sur Arc) : 18 March to 8 May

Refuge du Carro (near Bonneval sur Arc) : 18 March to 8 May

It makes sense that those three huts share the same dates, since there’s a famous traverse that goes from Carro to Evettes to Averole. I once did a traverse from Averole to Evette, but I wish I could have spent more days at Averole, because there’s lots of tours there I haven’t done, and the Averole hut is very straightforward to hike to from the main road.

Another hut in the Maurienne to consider as a base for skiing several peaks:
