The Mercantour area is situated in the Alpes Maritimes mountains. The Mercantour National Park is home to thousands of species of plants and animals. The park covers an area of 65,000 hectares. The Mercantour borders with Italy and is lined to the Argentera national park. The frontier is a series of rugged 3000 meter summits, the high point is the 3143meter Mont Gelas. This is no barrier to the wolves that inhabit the region.
