Description

The ski resort of Chastreix is situated in the Puy de Dôme department in the Massif Central region. Laid out on the summer pastures of the Puy du Sancy, Chastreix is right at the heart of the Auvergne volcanoes at the head of the Dordogne valley. The lift served area extends from 1350 metres to 1850 metres. There are 13 km of runs served by 6 drag lifts and it is possible to ski over to the pistes of Super Besse and Le Mont Dore. There are also 39 kms of cross country skiing linked to the Sancy area giving a total of 284 kms

There are plans to build 20 new chalets in the resort in 2007. At the same time the resort is building a reservoir for 70 snow canons (at present there is a single canon). The resort has also recovered 2 lifts from the former ski resort of Chambon des Neiges on the other side of the Sancy range. A number of snow fences have been installed on the slopes to retain snow (a bit like in Scotland). The resort is also focusing on other activities such as snow-shoeing. There still isn’t a link with le Mont Dore but we wonder what they plan with those two ski lifts they have in storage?
