Silvretta started in 1923 when Heinrich Wunder producing the first steel ski edges in Karlsfeld, Germany. In the 1950s the Silvretta name appeared on the first safety ski bindings. From the 1970s Silvretta specialized in the ski touring market and during the 1980s the legendary 404 binding had 80% of the market. In the 1990s the company was acquired by Salewa and lost market share to more innovative desigens from Dynafit and Fritschi. Silvretta started making a comeback in 2003 with the Silvretta Pure binding, at 1300 grammes the lightest rail touring binding available. In 2006 the company has expanded the Pure line and introduced skis and a touring boot.
