Trapped Snowboarders Plucked to Safety

There has been a narrow escape for two young snowboarders above the notorious cliffs of the Grand Rousses in the ski resort of l’Alpe d’Huez. The dangers are well signposted from above but the cliffs have been the seen of a number of dramas.

Last spring two Danish tourists fell to their deaths after becoming blocked above the complex rock faces. The accident was played out in full view of people on the pistes below.

At around 16h00 yesterday the alarm was given and the rescue helicopter stationed at the Alpe d’Huez aerodrome swung into action. The boarders were plucked to safety with nothing more than the fright of their lives.
