Six Months for la Plagne Ski Patrollers

Three members of the piste security in La Plagne have received suspended sentences of six months with fines ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 Euros following at the end of a trial in Albertville.

The case was brought following a fatal accident in the resort in February 2002.  Véronique Astrua, a forty year old woman, struck a cord at the level of her larynx.  The cord marked the crossing of two blue pistes.  She was transported to hospital in a serious condition where she died 10 days later.  The state prosecutor said that the rope was “like an invisible razor”.
