This new section of the station will be built geographically below Arc 2002 and will be called Arc 1950. It will be roughly under the chair lift of Prés St Esprit. The resort will initially comprise 1000 beds to be built by the end of 2003 with a total of 3500 beds. The first stone of the village was laid in June 2002 and landscaping work is moving ahead.
The Pré St Esprit lift will be replaced towards the end of construction by a high speed chair.
The new station is being developed with US firm Intrawest who has now become the 2nd shareholder in the Compagnie des Alpes, the lift company that runs les Arcs as well as a number of other areas. Presumably this will be ‘luxury apartments?’ in line with the Alpages de Chantel apartments already built in 1800.
