Bemused mountaineers in Chamonix have a new place to shop for their skiwear, The Coco Chanel shop on rue du Docteur Paccard. While skiers in swanky Courchevel have long been treated to visions of Madamoiselles of all ages sporting Karl Lagerfeld’s chic designs on the front de neige, Chamonix is the kingdom of the skibum, living 10 to a room and not changing from his salopettes all winter.
All that seems set to change. The Chanel shop will be selling prêt a porter, shoes and accessories but somehow we think it will be more of a hit with many Japenese attracted to the spectacular views of Le Mont Blanc. However the Chanel clothes are beautifully designed and no doubt they will remain the usual timeless classics. Chanel will be joining Quicksilver, O’Neil and Esprit already well established in the town.
Chanel can be found at:

The Jackson Hole based Teton Gravity Research, famous for their Freeride movies, is also opening a store in Chamonix to act as the European end of their distribution. They are located a little down the road from Chanel:

How long before this band of extreme snowboarders and skiers make their first movie dressed.... entirely in Lagerfeld’s creations we wonder?
