Michel “Sigo” de Bernardy de Sigoyer, a well known and loved 54 year old Grenoble man was caught in an avalanche while ski touring in the Lauzière massive.
He was found in a state of hypothermia and cardiac arrest but his heart was restarted after a long effort by rescuers. He was transported to hospital at Moutiers and later to Grenoble but was taken off life support at 4pm the next day when a EEG showed no brain activity.
Michel Sigo was one of the pioneers of extreme ski in the region during an era when many of the routes implied a serious engagement. Outside of skiing Sigo had stayed true to the ideas of his youth and was a strong activist in the area of anti-globalisation. He had recently started a Web site which his family plan to maintain.
