A ski tourist had a macabre discovery this morning. A little before 9am he came across the body of another skier at the foot of the Aiguille du Grand Fond (2940 meters) in the Beaufortain mountains in the Savoie department.
The body was that of a 48 year old Lyon man who had set out on a ski tour the previous day. It seems that he lost his footing and slid from the summit ridge some 300 meters above. All of the ski routes to the Aiguille du Grand Fond present some difficulties for ski mountaineers.
Another ski tourist had a lucky escape today when he slid on the Grand Casse below the Grand Couloirs. A couple of quick thinking witnesses were able to intercept the skier and save him from a serious fall. The skier was taken to hospital by helicopter suffering from a dislocated shoulder and ice burns to the face (source http://www.skirando.ch)
