Increasing Avalanche Risk in Haute Savoie

The end of the spring like weather accompanied by snow and wind will lead to a small increase in avalanche risk over the weekend in the Haute Savoie region according to Meteo France.  Anyone venturing off-piste should take care near ridgelines and cols exposed to wind.

Skiers are not the only people who’ve been confused by the unseasonal weather conditions.  UK website j2ski has drawn our attention to Max the Swiss Stork who normally spends winter in Marocco heading home in early April.  This year the bird set out on the 31st of January and is already half way across Spain according to his radio transponder.  Temperatures are set to plumet 15C in Europe on Saturday night as artic air hits the continent.  If Max does make it to Switzerland he will have nowhere to stay as his traditional chimney pot nest site will be in still be in use for heating.
