The Chamonix Freeride Dayz is a week earlier and a couple of days shorter this year as there are no long ‘bridge’ holiday at the start of May. The program remains the same, parties, music, freestyle and the dreaded water slide (fortunately there is a hot tub as the water is still close to freezing).
Last year we spent 4 days in the resort. The lift pass isn’t cheap but there are no queues and you can ride the Grand Montets cable car as many times as you like, or are capable of so it is really good value. We didn’t try the water slide, but under the hot May sun there were plenty of natural water slides to traverse. Last year it even managed to snow on Saturday night giving a thin layer of powder to ski on the Sunday. This year the end of season snow seems to be even better so it should make for an excellent event.

We missed the Freeride days this year but I caught up with Khamaki at the Road Gap and he reports that Saturday was a day of low cloud and hard snow. They had breakfast at 6h30 on Sunday in order to make the first lift. It was raining cats and dogs in the valley but higher up… well you’d better check out this video
