It is Christmas and Easter on the same day for skiers in Grenoble. After 30cm of fresh snow on Sunday the Olympic ski resort of Chamrousse is offering free access to the ski lifts for this, the last week of the 2003-2004 ski season.

There are four lifts open but looking at the pistes yesterday there seems to be a lot of skiing left in the resort with the off-piste routes to the Vans and Sorbier in excellent condition. Skiers and boarders should take care if going off-piste. The avalanche risk is 3 [considerable] with the possibility of avalanches as the snowpack warms during the day and the risk of slabs on colder north facing slopes.
Commenting on the operation, Fabrice Hurth, the director of the resort said “it is our way of thanking people who came to our station during the season”.
