Avalanche kills two on Mont Blanc

Two Haute-Savoyards have been killed by an avalanche on Mont Blanc early yesterday. The climbers were attempting a long route on the Droites above the Talèfre glacier. It seems that the pair were hit by a small slab under the Tour des Courtes at around 3600 meters altitude. The men were swept to their deaths over cliffs.

A pilot spotted the men’s bodies on the Talèfre glacier at around 9h00. The victims were Boris Pouilly a voluntary member of the Brizon mountain rescue services and a friend from Annemasse. Mr. Pouilly was an experienced climber and senior member of the Bonneville French Alpine Club. The 37 year old father of three was preparing for his mountain leaders examination. Despite the arrival of summer there has been fresh snow and very high winds above 2500 meters altitude.
