Zag skis in financial trouble

Ski website MySnowSports.com has reported that Zag skis have gone into liquidation following the withdrawal of one of their principal shareholders. Zag had previewed a range of eight skis for the 2006/7 winter season but these will not go into production. The current stock including some pre-production 2007 skis as well as other assets including the name (Take Off Zag Skis) and patents will be sold at auction on the 4th of October. Zag had 5 employees and last year made a profit of 181 K€ on a turnover 618 K€. The company produces around 2000 pairs of ski annually which are sold worldwide.

With their snowboard inspired shapes Zag skis was a trend setter. However they had production problems with the Rouge although these are not thought to have contributed significantly to their current difficulties. Guillaume Rassod, an associate of Zag would like to continue production but with a range more focused on the backcountry market consisting of the Big 84, Lady, H112 and Slap.

Zag will restart production again over the summer. I believe it is Franck Bernes-Heuga, their Pyrenees pro-rider who has refinanced the project and will manage things (he has family money). There will be a new ski range for 2008.
