Hi Everyone,

My AT/randoneé setup is Fritschi Freeride bindings and K2 Shuksans (78mm under foot).  I picked up a set of Diamir 82mm Axion Crampons Long (with the red plastic attachment, rather than black).

The site I bought them from said they’d work with post-2003 Freeride bindings.  I’ve since seen in the Diamir Axion page that they’re (possibly) not designed to be compatible with Freeride bindings.

Does anyone have experience with using the LONG Axion crampons with Freeride bindings?  My Freerides are from 2009.  My skis are unfortunately in a different country, so I won’t be able to check whether they’re compatible until December.

Thanks!
Eli

Both sites are right, gearx are talking about the original Axions and Fritschi are talking about the new ones. I think you’re confusing yourself because you’re actually using the wrong name for your bindings, you mean “Freeride Plus” not “Freeride” which were the original white freerides.

Freeride pro (current) = axion 86 & 110
Freeride Plus = axion 88 (photo)
Freeride = standard crampon

I have some of the older freeride, I slightly modified some axions to made them fit. I found them poor however as the points don’t engage the snow/ice very well and in particular when using the heel lift as they are not long enough.

not sure any are that good with the heel lifted, it’s the advantage of some other designs. The question though was about the “long” version which are a bit better.

Ah, thanks!

My bindings are the old, black model, not the new, white model, or old, white model, so I hope I’m fine with the ones that I bought, as the crampons and bindings resemble the ones in the photo.

The model I purchased is labeled as an 82, though; should I have looked for an 88?

Here is a photo of my crampon (not sure if it will help):

And for the other poster, the ones I purchased are the long version.

Thanks all for the responses.
