I cannot comment on the Picos as that is one area I have yet to explore. However I had a fantastic Ski Tour in Aiguestortes near Berat, just to the West of where you’re proposing. It is less developed and consequently less popular than the Picos. As a result you get a much more “Spanish” flavour to the trip. The huts I stayed in were all excellent and realtively easy touring to move between. If you are not looking to match the “Haute Routes” than this is definately somewhere I would recommed visiting. I used the services of John Howie at http://www.warthogmountaineering.co.uk and would highly recommend him.
Hello, the best for travelling are the month January to March; It, is when there is more snow and ice, for the forecast:http://www.guiasdelpicu.com/tiempo.htm.
For ski touring, is best the range west or the south range central: El cable, Aliva
I’ve got to admit I didn’t even know about the Picos de Europa until this year when I was researching european bears for my 7 year old son. They look like a great place to visit. I know the Pyrenees can be busy at times, do they get a lot of ski tourers or is it relatively quiet? There are some major cities nearby.
I’ve been skiing in the Picos brillant area, very wild. Stayed at this place http://www.picos-accommodation.co.uk/index.html Mike is really good and helpful and it’s a lovely place to say.
