Has anyone got an old half rope gather dust they wish to get rid of so that we can cut it in half and use for ski touring please? It isn’t going to be used for hard leads so happy to consider something still ok but old.

Assuming this isn’t a troll, dont do it!. Buy a Beal Rando 30m by 8mm or similar with a dry finish. You cannot tell by observation the strength or history of a rope.

A troll? Yeah I have a new rando but would like another couple of 30m bits for other stuff and practice / demo purposes.

The only thing I’d say agains the Beal is that they are very dynamic for Crevasse type use, you fall into a crevasse and you bounce around like you are on a bungy cord… in fact you can almost bounce straight out again. Grigris and other autoblocks can shred the 8mm rope.

I agree about the 8mm particular with blockers, more useful than some give them credit for but not ideal for ski touring. I have some lengths of beal verdon which I like, it’s around 49g/m and fall extension seems reasonable on it although I couldn’t quote the figures. Mostly I have it because you can buy it by the metre off the reel.
