My mate Steph was talking to Jean-Phi at Duret skis at the weekend

“still trying to sell those monoskis JP?”

“erm what do you mean monoskis?”

“those things in the corner”

“those aren’t monos, they are my latest wide skis - 177mm underfoot. You need 2 of them”

177mm… these must be the kirstie alley’s of the ski world!

Wow I can hear the tips clacking together now.

Reminds me of the Liberty BFF’s

177mm, 5.2kg, stick some dukes on them, get some boots one size too small and you’ve got the perfect Chamonix touring rig there

I was with some poor soul on a multi-day tour once who’d experienced that fit, personally I’d pop round and belt their toes with hammers for each time the poor woman winced.

Met one of UK forum folk who’d had a “slalom” fit and had lost all their toenails. Still I’ve managed to buy overly tight boots all on my own - the shop swore that the thermo liner would pack out with wear… well it did but never enough. The shell had plenty of room in it too.

If these skis are your cup of tea then its time to get a snowboard I think. Cheaper as well. You only need one.

Yeah, what’s the point of going that wide and if there’s a point, why stop at 177mm? I’m predicting that the next thing in ultra-wide powder skis will be convex/concave bases.
