Hi, I really want to lighten up my kit and intend to use Dynafit bindings on my rando skis. I use Scarpa Denali boots which are not compatible. I love my boots and really don’t want to change them if I can avoid it. Does anyone convert non Dynafit compatible boots?

I believe the answer is “no”, I did look in to this and gave up and bought some new Scarpas with the fittings. For all things “dynafit” try http://www.wildsnow.com, actually, to be a bit more specific. http://www.wildsnow.com/articles/dynafit_faq/dynafit-binding-faq-index.html

The answer is a “nuanced” no. There are “DIY"ers, extreme skier Pierre Tardivel comes to mind, who have converted alpine boots for use with the Dynafit bindings and I have heard a rumour of a Grenoble ski store that does this on a more “official” basis - although I think the idea is to convert lightweight alpine boots for expedition use so the price is probably a bit high. A lot of people are attached to the Denali so I see your dilema. Something like the Spirit III might give you a similar ride or maybe some of the new 2009 boots such as the Dynafit Zzeus.

I should have also mentioned that the new (for next winter) Black Diamond Factor will have Dynafit compatible soles

as well as Alpine. This should really improve the range of boots available next season. It is a stiff boot, flex rating of 130 although the flex is supposed to be very progressive for those who have already skied it.
