A rucksack and glove belonging to a British man missing for five days in the Cinto range in Corsica have been found next to an avalanche at 1900 meters. Rescue workers, from the police and specialist units of the fire service, started a large search after friend became worried on the 29th. Nothing has been heard from the man since Christmas day. His dog has been found inside the refuge d’Asco.

A rapid probe of the slide has not revealed anything but the search was due to restart at 6h30 this morning. The 28 year old man had set out on the GR 20 (Alta Strada). He had been reporting in by mobile to friends in Calvi. The police were able to triangulate his mobile phone to a valley in the Asco area at 2000m altitude. A ground based search was organised as rescue helicopters were unable to fly in the zone due to high winds and poor weather conditions.
