Two skiers killed on closed piste

A father and his 11 year old daughter have been killed by an avalanche on a closed piste in the ski resort of Val d'Isere. The combe du Géant in the Pissalais sector was closed due to the risk of avalanche. There had been around 40cm of fresh snow over the previous 48 hours.

The avalanche risk was Considerable (3/5). The victims were residents in the Paris region. The mother was with the two victims and claimed they didn't know they were on a closed piste, they had not seen the signage. This is disputed by the head of piste security.
