Ski tourer killed by Tabor avalanche

A ski tourer has been killed following an avalanche in the Combe de la Mouche close to the town of La Mure in the Isere department. In total four people were caught by the slide with two injured, one seriously with an open leg break. The rescue services (PGHM and Civil Security) had trouble accessing the zone due to low cloud.

The deceased was a man aged in his 50s and local to the area. All the skiers were equipped with avalanche beacons. The deceased was buried for around an hour before being dug-out by the rescue services The risk in the sector was Considerable (3/5). The incident occured around 13h30 at 1700 on a west facing bowl. Locals reported strong winds overnight with large accumulations in the Combe de la Mouche.

There was another slide in the region, on the popular Chamechaude mountain close to Grenoble. Two snowboarders, climbing on snowshoes, were partially buried by the slide. They were uninjured.
