Ski tourer killed by avalanche near Samoëns

A 52 year old French ski tourer has been killed by an avalanche on the tête de Bossetan (2406 m.) above the ski resort of Samoëns in the Haute-Savoie. It appears he was skiing the very steep NW facing couloir de la Virgule. The couloir is accessed by avalanche prone slopes from the summit. The alert was given around 14h. The mountain rescue services spotted a ski on the surface of avalanche debris and an avalanche rescue dog was able to locate the body of the victim. The avalanche risk was 1 rising to 2 during the day with the risk of spring type avalanches especially on sun exposed steep, smooth slopes slopes.
