Rescue services appeal for prudence after avalanche death

The Savoie rescue services have appealed for prudence after a 22 year old ski tourer was killed near the col des Fours at Val d'Isere yesterday. The avalanche risk is 4/5 (High) in the area and the Savoie remains on orange alert for avalanches. A number of slides blocked roads yesterday.

Yesterday's incident occured at 16h30. The victim was part of a group of six Parisiens who wanted to spend New Year at the Fond des Fours refuge. Four of the group had gone for a ski tour in the afternoon. The victim's body was found by the PGHM. Nearly a meter of snow had fallen at altitude yesterday.

There was another avalanche near the Pic P├ędros, close to Andorra, in the French Pyrenees yesterday involving four ski tourers. All four were rescued without injury.
