Description

Return to Pravouta by bike. I found skiable snow below the village of le Baure and depths rapidly increased. The big issue was visibility with a real pea souper. The photograph doesn't give you a real idea of what it was like as I've boosted the contrast - we need electronic ski masks with image enhancement.

Skiing was ok. About 10cm of fresh snow on a base that is a bit humid so you had to keep your weight balanced. In face it was better on the fields lower down except the very last section which lacked depth.

There are a number of layers in the snowpack at 1600 meters. About 20cm of fresh snow. Then a more or less humid layer which continues for about 40cm then about 5/10cm of very wet slushy snow. Presumably it rained quite high last weekend. If it cools down or the weather clears it could improve skiing quite a bit by sucking moisture out of the snowpack.

Weather: Not too cold, thick low cloud.

Access: Snow started at le Baure.
