Distance: 12.5 km

Trip Reports

Vertical Climbed: 1,100 meters (3,609 feet)

Description

Some mind bending exposure on the Pas des Terreaux today. The section that was destroyed by a landslide has been partially remade with some rope protection. The path consists of a narrow sloped ledge with ball bearing like grit sitting on it. To one side a 45 degree slope with cliffs below. Not somewhere to bring the faint hearted.

All in all a long, tiring late afternoon in some wonderful scenery. Crossed two trailers on the way back from the Dome de Bellefont.

Route Taken: Instead of taking the tour de Balcon de Chartreuse from the source de Sanglier I descended directly to the car park via forest trails.

Weather: Very windy on the east and south of the Chartreuse and on the summit. Not bad on the summit plateau. Dry on the path.

Access: Clear, be careful of broken glass and open manholes at the hospital ruins.

Country: France Area: Chartreuse Trailhead: St Hilaire du Touvet

Conditions

Good throughout. Trail was completely dry with no rockfall under the Dent des Crolles, but I had waited for good conditions.
