Two Savoie Snowshoers Missing

A search for two snowshoers, a man and a woman in their 50s, missing since Sunday, has restarted this morning.  The alert was given by their bosses who were concerned after they didn’t arrive for work on Monday.

A team of consisting of CRS, Mountain Police and avalanche dogs assisted by two helicopters has made a tour of the refuges close to the ski resort of Pralognan-la-Vanoise close to the Three Valleys in the Savoie.  With ongoing snowfall and winds the avalanche risk is 3 [considerable] in the area.  Today rescue workers will concentrate on probing avalanches spotted in the area.

The missing couple are residents of Bozel et Cognin, close to Chambery in the Savoie.  Last February four snowboarders survived three nights in poor weather on Mont Rosset, also in the Savoie.  Another resident of Cognin died on Saturday in an avalanche in the Belledonne.
