Trapped Boarder Freezes to Death

A young snowboarder has frozen to death in a river at the bottom of a ravine close to the ski resort of les Contamines. The body of the 19 year old man was found on Sunday night after a search by units of the Chamonix mountain police (PGHM).

It seems that the man, who was from the region, had removed his board to climb the slope but had instead lost his grip and had slid into the gorge situated at 1,500 meters. He was found lying in the icy river by the side of his snowboard. There have been a number of recent accidents, both on and off piste, due to people slipping in the icy conditions.
