Ortovox recalls 3+ beacon

Ortovox are launching a preventative recall of their 3+ beacon model. The recall concerns all beacons shipped to vendors after the 17th October 2012. The beacon can switch to transmit mode after 2 minutes in search mode. Ortovox advise that affected beacons should no longer be used. You can check if your beacon is affected by following this link: Ortovox 3+ Recall

The problem concerns the new motion sensor used in the 3+ for automatic switchover to send mode. This sensor detects if the searcher has been involved in a secondary avalanche, hence is no longer moving, and as a precaution switches the beacon to send mode. A fault means that this sensor does not function properly and the beacon switches to send mode even if the searcher is still moving. The beacon can be manually switched back to search mode.
