Despite an extensive search by rescue workers two ski mountaineers, a man and a women aged in their 50s are missing somewhere in the Dômes de Miage sector in the Mont Blanc range.
The skiers left in the direction of the refuge des Conscrits on the 1st of May (last Friday). The pair were seen roped up by other skiers summiting the Dômes de Miage around 14h00 on Saturday. They were probably the last to summit that day so no-one crossed their path on the descent.
Rescue workers found their yellow North Face tent (Mountain 25) on flat ground above the seracs of Tré la Grande at around 2350 meters. It was planted just after some technical terrain.
The children of the female skier, a high school teacher in Passy, raised the alarm on Sunday afternoon when their mother didn’t return as expected. Rescue workers searched the sector in vain on Sunday and again on Monday in difficult conditions. Visibility was less than 50 meters.
The two skiers are reported to not have a lot of high mountain experience but are said to be prudent and they were properly equipped for the route. If you were in the sector or are doing the route tomorrow (when better weather is expected) and noticed anything please don’t hesitate to contact the police. The rescue services will restart their search equipped with RECCO,dogs and avalanche beacons.

Despite an extensive search by police and helicopter crews no trace has been found of the missing skiers. Police have extended the search to the area around Mont Tondu but the skiers were seen at the summit of the Miage by at least a couple of witnesses so it seems they would have descended from here to their tent. The most likely explanation is a fall, possibly into a crevasse.
