Avalanche in the Hautes-Pyrenees

A 68 year old female skier from Barcelona in Spain has been killed by an avalanche on Sunday in the Néouvielle range in the Hautes Pyrenees department. The slide was apparently caused by warming weather conditions.

The accident occured at 10h30 on the Pic d’Estaragne (3 006 meters) at 2800 meters altitude. The skier was carried around 400 meters by the slide over cliffs and was killed by impact with rocks. Part of a larger group of four other ski tourers they were described as experienced by the high mountain police (PGHM) who assisted in the rescue.

Thanks for the information. A very experienced mountaineer by all accounts. I found this reference to her in the Amercian Alpine Club journal for 1977
