The Beaufortain gets a Beacon Basin

A new avalanche beacon training area has opened in the Areches ski resort in the Beaufortain mountain range. The Areches is the home of the Pierra Menta ski mountaineering marathon so it seems appropriate they have made this move.

beacon basin

The basin has been developed with French avalanche beacon manufacturer Nic-Impex and has six transmitters to simulate victims buried under the snow. Unlike some of the other parks this is not self-service. You need to ask a Piste Patroller for assistance to use the installation. The park is located on the Plateau de Cuvy in the Grand Mont sector. Conveniently en-route for the normal route of the Grand Mont if you are on touring skis.
