German skier killed at Tignes
A German skier has died following a fall near the summit of the Leisse (2792 meters) yesterday. The Leisse is part of the Tignes Grande Motte glacier ski area. The man, who was in his 50s, who had complained of back pain following the fall died before he could be evacuated to hospital by helicopter. The accident occured around 13h00. The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet clear although the area is not heavily crevassed. Lack of snow and strong winds have left some areas very icy.
