Parents of Swiss avalanche victim risk jail

According to the Tages-Anzeiger the parents of a 12 year old boy killed by an an avalanche on Sunday at Davos, CH risk jail time for manslaughter by negligence. The parents were skiing off piste in the Klosters section of the Parsenn area when their son was buried by an 80 meter wide avalanche. The avalanche risk was Considerable at the time. Klosters has many itinerary routes. These “off piste” runs are opened by the ski patrol when the avalanche risk subsides. At the time of the accident there were avalanche warnings in place in the resort and skiers were advised not to venture off piste. A Judicial investigation has been opened into the accident.

In 1988 Prince Charles narrowly missed an avalanche on such a run in Klosters, the slide killed his friend Hugh Lindsay.
