Tignes avalanche, solider in serious condition

A solider has been seriously injured by an avalanche in Tignes during a training session. The man was with a group of 8 climbing on skis to the summit of the Grande Sassière when he slid, triggering a slide which carried him several hundred meters. The man was buried under 1 meter of snow. Discovered in a state of cardio-pulmonary arrest he received emergency medical care at the scene before being heliported to hospital in Grenoble.

Sadly the soldier has not survived. There have been eight fatalities so far this season in four incidents. 3 in the Savoie, 1 in the Isere.
