A 32 year old French snowboarder was killed by an avalanche on Tuesday evening descending the Mont du Borgne (3153m). He was part of a group of three boarders who had earlier climbed the peak on snow shoes.

The slide measures 100x300 meters. The alert was given at 19h00 by a group of ski tourers who were in the area. The man was found by an avalanche dog at 2800 meters around nightfall. The rescue services have warned off piste skiers to take extra care given the fresh snow and large temperature variations between night and day at the moment. Further fresh snow is expected at least through to Wednesday next week.
