They were automatic translations which I then ran through a post processor to clean up and make more sense of. I’ve taken a slightly different tack this year. From this page you can get WAP/Cellphone friend versions of the French bulletin:

and if you have a javascript enabled browser Google will translate them for you. This was a request from people who are doing multiday trips and who have limited connectivity in the mountains. Each bulletin is about 3k long. Tested on my ancient WAP enabled mobile from 2400 meters this week.

There won’t be a Haute-Savoie bulletin from the 15th but bulletins will cover each mountain range, so you’ll get a Chablais bulletin, a Mont Blanc bulletin etc. Assuming all launches as planned by Meteo France I’ll see what can be done with the format to make it more accessible.

Ok so Meteo France has launched the new avalanche bulletin… unfortunately all the text is contained in an image. So it is not easy to do much with, in fact not easy to access on small screen devices.

Epic Fail by Meteo France and probably against article 47 de la loi du 11 février (no 2005-102) whereby information must be presented in a form accessible to people with visual impairments.

I can’t help but think we’ve got the best system here in Switzerland.

The national bulletin is published at 1700hr with the translation available at 1830hrs. The Regional Avalanche Bulletins are then published in the morning at 8.00 am in French or German. In extreme conditions, or if there’s a major overnight alteration, the national bulletin is republished.

I’ve been reading them Ise, they are bloody great! Like you said its an efficient service!

I keep an eye on the lower Valais one, as its reasonably close to the Mont Blanc Massif.

I also follow the romande forecast on meteo suisse which seems to be pretty good too.
