Impressive powder avalanche at Bessans

This impressive avalanche was filmed by holiday maker Frédérick Douzet in the village of Bessans in the French Haute-Maurienne during the afternoon of Monday 11 Jan. There was no damage. The main road between Bessans and Bonneval had been closed in the morning for avalanche control work. The natural slide started at around 3000 meters on the Pointes du Chatelard.

There has been nearly a meter of snow in the area coupled with high winds since the start of the year. The avalanche risk was 4 on a scale of 5.
