Grande Odyssee - les Carroz, stage 1

Sunday's stage of the Grande Odysees was won by Radek Havdra's team. Havdra is from the Tcheque republic and had already won the Grande Odyssée twice. The stage to les Carroz had to be shortened to 50km by the organizers and the weather this year is proving a real headache for the organisers.

The French mushers Rémy Coste and Jean-Philippe Pontier arrived about 4mn later. The only female competitor Sandrine Muffat described the stage as “difficult and extremely technical”.

Underlining the difficulty Slovak Branislav Spissak, taking part for the first time, crashed and hurt his ribs. He was unable to take the start line today leaving just 21 dog teams and their mushers including Sandrine. Today's stage is in the Giffre mountains between Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval and Morillon.
