What better for New Year's Eve 2019 than a night descent of Charmant Som? I was surprised at the number of people climbing up in the dark - walkiers, ski tourers, sledgers, cross country skiers, young and old alike, even toddlers on sleds. Some were going to camp overnight, it was pretty cold with the windchill at the bergeries. The climb was tricky, especially at the end where the trail was polished and refrozen in the evening air. The ski down wasn't bad though with my head-lamp, glad I had it as there were a lot of walkers in the night gloom.
Trail was in good condition but classic tracks were refrozen and hard to find any grip, so 4 minutes slower than the last climb. Windy after the Oratoire. Not too cold but I was well covered.
