Everest basecamp avalanche video

At least 14 people were killed on Everest after avalanches were triggered by the Nepal earthquake. However a number of climbers are still missing. Amongst the dead are Google exec Dan Fredinburg who had been covering his adventures on social media. German climber Josh Kobusch was able to film the avalanche as it struck base camp.

According to Danish climber Carsten Lillelund Pedersen climbers were "trying to outrun the avalanche and you cannot, so many people were hit from behind, blown off the mountain, blown into rocks, hit by debris, tents were flying off."

The priority now is to rebuild the links with camps 1 and 2 through the ice-fall. Last year 16 sherpas were killed by a single avalanche on the mountain. 3,600 people are feared dead in the rest of Nepal; the worst quake in the country for 80 years.
