Brit Boarder in VB Crevasse Fall

A 25 year old British snowboarder has been killed after falling 30 meters into a crevasse while surfing the Vallée Blanche above Chamonix. The man was with four friends at 3,400 meters altitude close to the Gros Rognon, they had apparently taken off their boards to walk on a flat section when the snow bridge covering the crevasse collapsed.

On the 11 March a German skier fell around 25 meters into a crevasse on the Glacier de la Girose at la Grave - la Meije. The man, aged in his late 30s ended up at the bottom of the crevasse requiring a complicated rescue by the CRS des Alpes. The man suffered light injuries.

update
There is a possibility that the ropes on the ridge from the Aiguille du Midi will be removed and only experienced skiers or boarders or those travelling with a guide will be advised to do the Vallée Blanche. This will be a temporary measure while the snowbridges covering crevasses are poor. Please check with the OHM in Chamonix for information.
