Grenoble St Geoirs Airport
Ski-Areas > Grenoble St Geoirs Airport
Grenoble St Geoirs airport has expanded rapidly with the arrival of low-cost carriers. The airport is located 45km to the east of Grenoble, around 30 to 45 minutes drive by car with a short section of toll road (Credit Cards or Euros accepted). Albertville, gateway to the Tarentaise resorts is 125km or around 1h30 by car. Traffic around Grenoble can be very heavy at peak periods and expect delays. There are speed cameras in both directions on the Grenoble ring-road and the limit is 90km/h (about 55mph). There are also mobile speed cameras (usually a silver estate car or white police car) used on the local autoroutes.
There are Decathlon sports stores at St Egreve at the entrance to Grenoble along with a Carrefour hypermarket. There is a Decathlon at Espace Comboire on the autoroute to the Oisans ski resorts and a Leclerc hypermarket. Beware of thieves when shopping in Grenoble and leave nothing visible in your car.
There is a regular bus service, line 7310 operated by Transisere. It is then possible to reach the local resorts from an onward connection at Grenoble Gare Routiere. The mainline TGV station is next door. However public transport is slow and does not run late in France so take care when planning your journey. There are no baggage lockers for security reasons.
AGBus run connections to the Tarentaise during the ski season.
There are car hire firms at the airport.
