Tignes opening delayed

Despite some recent high altitude snow Tignes have announced that the glacier is not in a good enough state to open this weekend for the autumn season. The glacier closed early in the summer due to the heat-wave and has suffered since. In particular the ice under the lower lift has melted further leaving rocky conditions that will take significant snowfall to cover.

The crevasses are also completely open. Clubs and pros had been scheduled to start their pre-season training this weekend. It will probably need at least half a meter of snow to prepare the runs. Tignes was already forced to delay last year's opening.
