Juliette Benedicto and Tanguy Vuillet killed by cornice fall in the Aravis

Well known French national Trail team member Juliette Benedicto and elite cross country racer Tanguy Vuillet have been killed in the Aravis mountains following a cornice fall. Benedicto, 33 years old and a mother of two won the AlpsMan "iron man" competition at Annecy last year.  Tanguy Vuillet, who finished in the top hundred of the Transjurassian ski race last week, was training for the Pierra Menta. The couple had been reported missing on Thursday afternoon but a helicopter reconnaissance failed during the evening failed to localize the couple. They had last been seem in the Trou de la Mouche area near the ski resort of Le Grand Bornand.

The victims were on the ridge overlooking the Arve valley when the accident happened. The Mountain Rescue services reminded ski tourers that this is the second incident this winter in the same sector. On the 19th January a ski tourer fell 400 meters from the summit of the Tardevant. He suffered multiple injuries.
