Ortovox Model 3D Mountain for avalanche educators

This looks like a useful product for avalanche educators. It is a 3D model of an idealized ski mountain. You can get students to assess slope angles, predict the influence of wind and see how the sun affects the snow at different times of the day and relate all that to a topographical map for route planning.

It is maybe a bit too idealized. A mountain is rarely a uniform slope, there will be gulleys and rollovers which can be points where an avalanche is triggered even on a seemingly benign pitch. However there is also a limit to how much information a student can take in over a couple of day course. There is no price on the Ortovox website as yet.
