Opening day for non-glacier French resorts

A number of ski resorts have opened ahead of schedule this weekend in the French Alps and Pyrenees although access to Porte Puymorens and Andorra was complicated by nearly a meter of snow and a number of avalanches on the access road at Hospitalet. Much to the frustration of tourists and commuters. The avalanche risk in the Ariege Pyrenees is described as "High".

There is skiable snow from 1000-1300 meters in the Northern Alps with a meter of snow at 2300 meters. Conditions in the mountain ranges are relatively stable. A freeze-thaw cycle earlier in the week has compacted base layers.
