The ghost ski resort of St Honoré, situated at 1500 meters on Southwest facing slopes in the Oisans Mountains near to Grenoble, is to be sold by auction on the 26th of October 2003. Just in time for the new season.
The station was built in the early 1990s but was never completed. The developer was put in prison for fraud and the local government had to stump up a lot of cash as they had guaranteed the work.
The resort consisted of a tourist office, a bar-restaurant, a mini golf course, a beginners drag lift and two occupied apartment blocks. The other blocks have been wrecked by vandals or had not advanced beyond foundations. The resort is linked to the ski station of l’alpe du Grand Serre by a single chair lift.
The station was conceived during the boom years of the 80s but didn’t reckon with the lack of snow in this area, especially with the effects of global warming. As one person has commented, the first job of the new owner is to add 500 meters to the height of the resort.
