Climbing Accident Triggers Avalanche

Lourdes Infos is reporting that a couple of climbers lost their footing at around 12h30 yesterday in the Cirque de Troumouse, on the east face of the Mouneyran in the Pyrenees. Their slide triggered a snow and ice avalanche. The pair were carried some 300 meters before coming to a halt just above a cliff.

Laurent Cazaux, 38 years old and a trainee guide resident of Luz-Saint-Sauveur, suffered a serious leg injury in the slide. His partner, Cyril Eberhart, 25 years old and a member of the military based in Lourdes, was lightly injured. The two men were rescued by the mountain police (PGHM) from Pierrefitte-Nestalas and a doctor.
